The reading mainly talks about that since glass is very dangerous to birds, so there are several ways to prevent from harming them. However the listening disagrees and challenges what are stated in the passage by providing three reasons. Firstly, in the reading, it is said that we can use one-way glass to replace the regular ones. In contrast, the listening thinks that the surface of that kind of glass is like a mirror which can’t be understood by birds. That is to say, if they see a reflection of the sky or tree in a mirror, they’ll still fly right into them and crash. Secondly, the passage asserts that we can paint some colorful lines or other designs on regular window glass. However, the professor has an opposite opinion that birds will consider those unpainted places or glasses as open holes and they'll try to fly through them. In case of birds doing that, the unpainted spaces in a window would have to be very small, but that would then make the rooms of the buildings too dark to stay in because all the glasses have been colored. Finally, the author of reading passage believes that creating an artificial magnetic field to guide birds away from buildings. On the other hand, the professor disagrees it with the point that birds only use earth’s magnetic when they are travelling very long distances. Birds can use their own magnetic like eyes to direct themselves.
