The passage and the professor mainly talk about several methods we can use to prevent birds from flying through glass windows and protect them. The author believes that there are three ways which can solve the problem, however, the professor argues that these three solutions will not work. According to the passage, the first solution is that use one-way glass to replace the regular glass and birds can understand they cannot fly through it. Nevertheless, the professor points out that one-way glass is something like mirror and birds do not understand what is mirror. So, birds see sky and trees in the one-way glass and feel that they are sky and trees and fly into them. The first solution does not work. Secondly,Second, while the passage suggests that glass with colorful designs can help, the professor counters by saying that transparent part of this kind of glass can be regarded by birds as open holes. So they will still try to fly through, unless there is only a small part unpainted which can therefore make rooms too dark. But this solution will make people inside the room too dark. The passage shows that magnetic signals can guide birds away from the building. On the contrary, the professor mentions that birds use their's magnetic field to guide their way only when they are traveling for a very long distance such as immigration in the winter, and they used eyes and light to determine where to go when they fly in the city side to side. That is to say, magnetic signals will not influence birds's fly if birds have a short trip.
