the reading passage and the lecture hold different opinions on the humpback whales's ability to be navigating by the star. the reading passage provides three evidence to support the idea. However, the listening passage cast doubt on it.

Firstly, the reading passage claims that humpback whales are so intelligent that they can use stars to navigate by. However, the lecture suggests that there is no connection between intelligence and navigation by stars. There are other birds guided by the stars like ducks. Their intelligence are in average but can be navigated  by the stars. so the ability and the intelligence are not connected.

Secondly, the reading passage points out that  whales move in straight line because relying on the external stars. However, the lecture states that whales migrate in straight line because they sense another external thing- the magnetic field of the earth. Whales have bio-magnetized. They can feel the magnetic field and orient by it.

Finally,  the reading passage argues that whales have spy-hopping which allow them to look at the star. However, the listening material suggested that sharks also own spy-hopping but they do not migrate and use the special ability for hunting. They use it in the day time instead of night and there are no stars in the daytime.
