The passage claims the three theories which suggest the reasons why Kerala has the phenomenon of red rain. However, the listening material totally disagree with the three theories mentioned in the reading passage. Firstly, the reading passage claims that the phenomenon of red rain is caused by the comet since before the rain, citizens heard loud sound like the comets which could produce fragments which broke apart in the atmosphere. However, the listening material says that there is a official record which record all the dates of the events comets or meteors happened, and the date of the red rain does not coincide with the date of the events of the meteors. Besides, the loud sound could be the thunder instead of the sound of the comets. Secondly, the reading passage suggests that it could be the seasonal winds- a character of the local climate- which carried the red sand from other regions which contain red sand. Instead, the listening material says that every region's dust is distinctive because of the chemicals of the sand. Thus, by examining the chemicals of the sand, the researchers found that the chemicals of the sand in Kerala is different with those in the other regions which contain the red sand since they have high iron and phosphorous. At last, the reading passage suggests that the red rain is caused by the red colored spores emitted by a kind of plant, and when they emit large amounts of the red spores, the high concentration would color the rain with red. On the contrary, the listening material says that those plants only emit the red spores at certain period of time which dose not coincide with the date of the red rain happened.
