I agree that it is important to know about events happening around the world even if it's not related to our lives. As far as I'm concerned, getting to know about these events allows us to understand the world, enrich our lives and engage our friendship with others. First of all, learning about international news allows us to understand the world. When we watch news or listen to radios, we can always learn something about the world. In this case, we will be able to understand about international relationships as well as diplomacies between countries. We can, therefore, widen our eyes and broaden our horizon, which play an essential role in our long term development. Secondly and more importantly, knowing about world events also enriches our lives. In my opinion, such news, even if they are not related to our daily lives, are meaningful and educational. For instance, news about defeating terrorism teach us to maintain world peace; news about theft and robbery make us think about justice. Learning about these events enriches our lives, enabling us to think critically and justly, which helps build up a moral society and, to a larger extent, a more civilized and developed country. Last but not least, reading news irrelevant to us can also engage our social network with others. In my opinion, when we watch these news, we will have more topics to discuss with our friends. For instance, as countries are developing deep space science, my friends and I are always discussing about whether we will be able to build a space colony by 2050. Although these news seem unlikely to affect our life in the short term, they can give us something to talk about among our friends. In this way, our friendships are more engaged. Additionally, discussing these news with strangers may also enlarge our social network by making more friends. Therefore, it's vital for us to learn about things happening around the world. In a nutshell, knowing about events happening around the world has multiple benefits. For the reasons aforementioned, I agree with the statement.
