In the passage, three possible theory have been proposed in order to explain why there are red rain in Kerala, India continues. However, the speaker claims that none of them are correct. Initially, the passage mentions the comet theory. In this theory, comets have broken up high in the atmoshpere and became little particle in the red rain. Also, some local people even heard loud noises before or around the time of the rain. But, the speaker states that the loud noises are probably thunder. And, there is not any comet record matched the time of red rain in nearby area. The second theory provides by the reading material is the red sand theory. This theory claims that seasonal winds carry red sands from either Arabia or North Africa and cause the red rain. The teacher, however, suggests that there is not any iron or other distintive material come from desert found in red rain. Therefore, the red rain is impossible to have a origin of red sand. Finally, the passage beliefs that those spores from local lichen may be the main reason of red rain. The speaker doubts this theory by pointing out that the time when local lichen release spores does not match the time of red rain.
