In the past, most of parents decided the life in the future of their children because of old concept. Nowadays, they actually better to make their own decisions. I agree this statement due to the dynasty changed better than better.

First of all, most people are attending education system that they want. This is a big development fo every country, in the past, only rich people or noble were able to get high education. They have to learn subjects what they parents wanted. The poor must go finding works when they were young in order to survive. Even if they have a lot of ideas, they still cannot do something that they want. Follow the rules of family was the only thing they did. China is a typical example, the ancients said:hundred good filial first. In the ancient China, people only can do something that their parents asked to do. However, we now can learn what we interest. Most of parents respect their children. 

Secondly, people can decide who they want to marry. In the past, the marriage are always controlled by parents. Some nobles likely to get benefits through marriages. It was a necessary responsibility for their family, mostly decide by parents. Their children just follow the street made by their parents, no against. Compare to now, modern people have their own right to decide their marriage.
